Broadist hosts a DRV gift certificate giveaway!

Caroline in an awesome Dusty Rose Vintage leather vest

I'm so excited to announce this Dusty Rose Vintage gift certificate giveaway because I'm basically totally in love with  I've mentioned a few times how excited I get about "real" girls blogging about clothes.  When I first decided to start listing vintage online, I chose to use regular girls as models (check the "Women we think are great" tag for interviews with some really cool gals).  Fashion can feel like a party that only the under 18, under 120 lbs, over 5' 8" folks were invited to, so I get really stoked on all the ordinary "girl next door" girls who still totally geek out on clothes.  There's more of us than them, so why should we be so underrepresented?

I was super stoked to meet Caroline (one half of at our Fashion's Night Out party.  We secured our cred with her because the event was a fundraiser for the amazing lady-positive group, Permanent Wave, and she got points from us for being dressed super bad ass and then winning our styling photo contest with this great getup from our stash. Mutual lady love and respect!

Seriously, how could she not win?

This was the DRV dress she chose as her prize.  Adorable, right?

To win the $40 Dusty Rose Vintage gift certificate, simply reblog this blog post.   But you can also get extra entries by following us on Twitter, Pinterest or Facebook.  The winner will be selected on Monday, April 30th.  Until then you can also use the coupon code 'broadist15' for 15% off anything in the shop

Win a DRV gift certificate Selective Potential's blog!

I've known of Tieka basically as long as I've known of any fashion blogger.  I was always drawn to her slightly more quirky, slightly less strictly commercial style.  So now that I'm about to open my vintage wholesale warehouse in Brooklyn and have been dedicating a little more focus to selling online as well, I instantly thought of Selective Potential as a perfect blog to host a giveaway.

There will be a few places to nab a Dusty Rose Vintage goodies and/or gift certificates, so I'll be keeping you posted as the opportunities arise.  To enter to win a $30 gift certificate on Selective Potential, follow the instructions on this blog post

Enjoy her mad style and stay tuned for updates on the new space.  It's all more than I can possibly bare to share at the moment, but when I'm feeling less overwhelmed I'll start to spill some beans.

DRV handbag giveaway at Green House of Fashion

I'm a fan of eco fashion in pretty much all forms.  I'm not the crazy idealist I was in my teens believing that consumption had to stop at all costs.  I now see that it's much more about the mechanisms of creation than the end result of consumption.  This is pretty much the reason I do what I do.  Buying vintage means giving new life to something.

When I met Zanna at Green House of Fashion I was pretty excited to find a blog that shared my interest in the cultivation of beautiful things that leave a small carbon footprint.  I'm hoping the whole world's modes of production slowly start moving toward non toxic, biodegradable, repairable, reusable...  But as much as I shy away from the soap box, the problem won't be fixed if we ignore it.

I love to see people exploring the issues from a place of appreciation for the positive things happening rather than only focusing on anger for what isn't happening.  Green House of Fashion is a great place to find reverence for a job well done.

I'm excited that Dusty Rose Vintage has the chance to do a giveaway with such an inspirational blogger.   This adorable mahogany leather handbag is up for grabs.  Here's how to enter:

1.  Friend Dusty Rose Vintage on Facebook -

2.  Leave a comment on this post describing how you'd use the bag (how would you style it, what colors would you wear with it, etc.)

Entries accepted until midnight on Friday, April 20th.  The winner will be randomly selected on April 21st.  Zanna will email you for address information.

I love the pink sunnies - such a great touch!

Be sure to check out GHofF on Pinterest and Facebook as well!

Playing dressup with stylist Stefany Mohebban

Diane Fres top available HERE

I have a special place in my heart for stylists who love vintage.  Stefany and I met and bonded specifically over this love, so when I heard about her new blog, Pretty In Thrift (see?  definitely my kind of fashion nerd!), I knew we needed to do a photo shoot.

I asked Will Star, my favorite Greenpoint photographer, if he would do the outdoor portion of the shoot.  As you'll see from the photos, some of these looks were pretty steamy, so Stefany definitely got a lot of attention.  I saved some of my favorite pieces for this shoot, and here they are, all for you.  (You can also see more of Stefany's style expertise on her Tumblr).

World's most amazing jumpsuit (no hyperbole!) available HERE

60s mustard yellow shift dress available HERE
Snakeskin loafers available HERE,  Chistian Dior fishtail back blazer available HERE
80s lace peplum floral bustier available HERE
60s men's argyle robe worn as jacket available HERE
African safari tribal print midi skirt available HERE
This was a super fun shoot for me because not only does Stefany look incredible in everything, she's also pretty much up for anything (as demonstrated in the photo above - it was like 50 degrees and she stood out in the elements for at least twenty minutes at a time!).  Can't wait to bring you more looks with her!  Check out her blog for even more creative ensembles!

Hayseeds Big City Farm Supply Pop Up

If you follow my social media you probably already know that I'm a big fan of the ladies behind Domestic Construction ("A multi-disciplinary design studio focused on redefining the ordinary.").  So I was pretty stoked when they told me about their plans to turn part of their work studio into an urban farm supply Pop Up shop for the spring.

Hayseed's Big City Farm Supply shop is a collaboration between the lovely ladies at Domestic Construction, Brooklyn Grange, and Brooklyn Homesteader.   The shop will supply basically all you need to get your urban farm on - seeds, soil, tools, compost and even chicken and rabbit feed and beekeeping supplies!  It's literally a one stop shop if you are feeling the urge to test out your green thumb (unless you already happen to have one).

And for those of us like me with no skills to speak of, there will also be classes, workshops and events about things like vermicomposting (I had never even heard of this), seed starting, garden planning, and yes, even beekeeping.   The jury's out on whether anyone will ever be able to teach me not to kill every plant I set foot near, but I feel like if anyone can do it, it will be this lot.

So I was pretty excited to be asked to be a part of the pop up.
Of course the very first thing I thought of contributing were vintage overalls.  When out buying them, I managed to score this sassy little pair for myself. It's a shame you can't see my platform shoes that really rounded out the look.

Meg Paska of Brooklyn Grange

I wish I had taken more photos, but I was too busy actually enjoying the opening.  (Story of my life).  But if you live in NYC, I highly recommend that you head to 218 India Street in Greenpoint to check this out.  It's totally inspiring and I bet you won't be able to fight your desire to at least attempt to plant something.  It's going to be open through June so think about where you have some space to plant and get your butt down there!
